OCP wants to demolish the poor old district of Detroit and create a future city called Delta City in its place. The problem is that the local residents, who are attached to their ruined homes, have no intention of moving out. The representatives of the concern, fearing that they will run out of time to launch the investment, decide to hire a group of mercenaries who, under the guise of fighting crime, start "displacing" reluctant residents....
This is the scenario offered by RoboCop 3, a game created by Ocean under the license of a film directed in 1993 by Fred Dekker. Playing the role of the armed guardian of the law, the player will stand on the side of the poor residents of old Detroit and will bring order to the streets of the city.
In RoboCop 3 there are two variants of the game: adventure and arcade. The difference is that in the first case we go through all the missions one by one, while in the second case we can choose the scenario we are interested in. The plot of the game is presented in the form of short reports from the TV news service, which explain the current situation on the streets of Detroit. Right after the projection, we immediately move to the battlefield.
In total, the game offers five scenarios. In the first and third task we will sit in a radio carriage and take part in a crazy pursuit of stolen cars on the streets of the city. The second mission will allow us to shoot the bandits terrorizing the surrounding houses, while the fourth one will rise into the air with the help of Gyropack put on his back. The last scenario is a duel with a cyborg created by the OCP corporation, acting as the final "boss".
All arcade sections were made using vector graphics. Angular buildings and figures created from square blocks make a gloomy impression. In addition, the Ocean product clearly lacks colour. The visual setting is grey, faint and uninteresting. The only stronger point are the interludes presenting the story of the game, but they are not the main course of this program. The situation is also not improved by animation and general mechanics of the game. It's only more spontaneous to drive a car - the other elements lack dynamics, which can be best seen during the second mission, incompetently trying to imitate the FPS game genre.
RoboCop 3 is the only part of the series in which the authors gave up the classic convention of shooting to the right. The experiment turned out to be a complete failure. Ocean was clearly not up to the task of creating an interesting action game on the basis of the film, which makes the story of the fearless guardian of the law look very pale in relation to its predecessors.
