Robin Hood: Sherwood Builders Description
Robin Hood: Builders of Sherwood is a hybrid of an action RPG and a city-builder strategy game. The game was developed by MeanAstronauts, an independent Polish studio.
Plot
The hero of Robin Hood: Builders of Sherwood is Robin Hood - an outlaw known from medieval English legends, who took from the rich and gave to the poor, and fought against the sheriff of Nottingham. The protagonist and his friends, such as his beloved Lady Marion, Little John, Brother Tuck, Alan-a-Dale and Will Scarlet, are hiding in the vast Sherwood Forest. Keen to rid the despotic Sheriff of his power, first Robin and all who choose to join him will have to build a prosperous camp where they will prepare for the impending upheaval.
Mechanics
In Robin Hood: Builders of Sherwood the game takes place on two planes. The first is the layer characteristic for action RPGs. Observing the protagonist from behind his back (TPP), we travel through the vast, open world (on foot or on horseback) and carry out various tasks. During the game we attack sheriff's men and caravans of merchants cooperating with him, we take part in hunting, we make ambushes on convoys, and we fight with bandits. Battles are dynamic and during them we use both bow and sword.
As we progress, we create a sort of contact network; not only do we meet potential recruits for our camp (who can be found both in the villages and in the city of Nottingham), but we also get to know the local traders and farmers, with whom we can trade our surplus goods.
The second layer, on which the gameplay takes place, is the strategic one. After finding a suitable place to build a camp, we can enter the management mode. Then the camera changes perspective, showing our settlement from a top-down view. In this mode, we develop the camp's infrastructure and build new structures and improve the ones already built, as well as train recruits, to whom we assign various functions; our subordinates can become hunters, guards, robbers, builders or farmers. Producing various goods also plays an important role, as Robin's subordinates must not only have something to fight with, but also something to wear and eat.
Technical aspects
Robin Hood: Builders of Sherwood is based on Unreal Engine 4 technology. Its graphics looks really good.
