Road Works Simulator is a representative of the simulator genre with strategic elements that allow for a variety of real-world jobs. This time the focus was on road works. The player plays the role of the head of the company responsible for maintaining the local roads in good condition.

The actual gameplay has been divided into several dozen more or less complex stages, to which you gradually gain access. Each level has its own list of tasks and a time limit within which to fit in with their execution. The vast majority of commissioned missions are related to the main specialization of the company, forcing the need to build new roads, extend existing ones or repair surfaces damaged as a result of intensive use or adverse weather conditions.

During the game, however, there are less obvious orders. These include painting zebras and bicycle paths in places designated by the city, or digging into damaged power lines running under the road. The game is additionally hindered by random failures of the used equipment and the appearance of unexpected obstacles, such as rocky ground preventing efficient activities.

As in other titles of this genre, the player can only watch the roadworks performed by his employees, or at any time take control of one of the several available machines, including road rollers, concrete mixers, trucks or excavators. Vehicles are controlled with the use of keyboard and mouse.

The struggles are observed in a fully three-dimensional environment, where you can move freely. The game is additionally diversified by changing times of the day and realistic weather conditions (e.g. heavy rain and snowfall).
