River City Ransom: Knights of Justice is the next installment of the popular Kunio-kun series, which, despite limited interest, is still being developed today. The game was originally released in Japan in 2014 as Mahou Monogatari Nekketsu and reached Europe only in 2017 thanks to the Natsume company.
Story
The game world was plunged into darkness after it has been conquered by evil powers. After a few years of their rule, a daredevil appeared (Kunio, of course, but appearing under a different name), about which an ancient prophecy spoke. The task of players is to get rid of evil and restore peace.
Mechanics
In terms of gameplay mechanics, River City Ransom: Knights of Justice is not diametrically different from River City: Tokyo Rumble, although it has some jRPG elements. So it is such a mixture of a side-scoller fighting game with a Japanese role-playing game. Unlike other games from the Kunio-kun series, the action of this project takes place in a fantasy world, and during the game, we not only fight against people, but also various monsters and zombies.
Arcade combat is about punching and kicking enemies. There is also no shortage of various instruments of murder, such as swords. We usually find them in each location or use those dropped by opponents during the clashes. In addition, during the adventure, we can recruit two characters, which help in the fight. Interestingly, you can also switch between them at any time.
Technical aspects
River City Ransom: Knights of Justice looks very similar to all other installments of the Kunio-kun series. The developers have used the same, characteristic visuals, although, of course, due to the setting (fantasy land instead of Japanese streets), the whole thing is a bit different.
