Rising World is an action game taking place in an open world with randomly generated, fully destructible environments. The game was released on PC as a result of a cooperation between an independent German studio JIW-Games and KISS Limited. Thanks to being a part of Steam Early Access system for a few months, the developers managed to tailor the game to the hopes and expectations of the players.
Mechanics
When it comes to mechanics, Rising World is a representative of an incredibly popular sandbox-simulation genre, begun with cult-classic Minecraft. We are taken to a randomly-generated world that can be explored and shaped to our preferences. Our duties include taking care of our survival, crafting, and developing our character. However, JIW-Games has desired their production to be more oriented towards creativity and construction.
We begin the game armed with only a few basic tools, with an objective to survive in the wilds. The game’s early phase passes on gathering various resources, cutting trees, and hunting wild animals, with more actions and events underway. In all, the game includes over 200 various building materials that can be shaped into continuously demanding tools and items. The game is characterized by fully destructible and modifiable environment, allowing players the freedom to not only create the foundations on the ground, but also dig complex underground tunnel sites. At the same time, the game world is highly interactive – all ingame objects can be utilized in some way. For example, a piano allows us to perform a small concert.
Game Modes
The game includes both single and multiplayer modes, but as can be expected, the online mode is the main course, while singleplayer mode is more practice-oriented. Creating a group of like-minded friends can allow us to let our creativity run free, designing and building advanced constructions, or even whole cities.
Technical Aspects
Rising World is powered by a multi-purpose jMonkey Engine, while the graphics are build using voxels. As a result, the visuals are far cry from typical AAA titles, but are a plane higher than Minecraft. The fans of the genre should consider polished physics, including item and tree behavior. The authors have also included a dynamic day and night cycle, and support for LUA scripts.
