Red Steel 2 is an FPP shooter, a sequel of a popular Nintendo Wii game released in late 2006. Just like the first part, the sequel was developed by programmers from Ubisoft Paris Studio.
The game was set in a unique universe that combines futuristic elements with hardcore Western. The protagonist can skillfully not only wield a deadly katana, but also prime revolvers. The right atmosphere is built by the game’s stylistics, as well as the design of the main hero – he is clad in a long leather coat, a pair of jeans, and a hat. What is more, the hat is equipped with clever protection against certain attacks.
Red Steel 2 has some simple elements characteristic of RPGs. The hero earns experience, which allows him to improve his abilities. This unlocks previously inaccessible paths and locations. Thanks to this, missions are non-linear, as it is player alone who decides on how to develop the character and which path to take. Repeating the main story several times is not boring, since each time you can visit different levels.
However, what makes the game truly revolutionary, is the controls system. Thanks to Wii MotionPlus support the creators were finally able to fulfill the promises given even before the debut of the first game. The player has full control of not only fire weapons, but also the katana, and can perform any strikes he thinks of. The controls system also uses some traditional solutions. E.g. Z button locks on opponents, A allows to quickly turn around, and holding C blocks incoming attacks.
