Red Bull Air Race: The Game Description
Red Bull Air Race: The Game is a free-to-play flight simulator released for PC. The game was developed by Slightly Mad Studios, known from games such as Project CARS, Need for Speed Shift, or Shift 2: Unleashed.
Mechanics
The game is based on the official license of Red Bull Air Race World Series, a worldwide tournament established in 2003, initiated and sponsored by Red Bull. Each pilot has to complete a course consisting of narrow checkpoints build from two 25-metre pylons. Sometimes, the tournament is accompanied by show flights that involve spectacular air maneuvers.
The pilots board small and maneuverable planes such as Zivko Edge 540, MXR Technologies MX2, CAP 232 or Extra 300. The game was developed in close cooperation with the organizers of the said events, enabling us to use an authentic aircraft, and face real participants of the tournament, which takes place in recreated locations.
Technical Aspects
The authors have focused on realistic flight – every maneuver is governed by a complex physics engine, while each plane has a unique handling and is characterized by different values. The flight model was inspired by real data gathered during different stages of the tournament.
