Recompile

Recompile is an action adventure game from the metroidvania sub-genre. The title was developed by independent studio Phigames.

Plot

Action of Recompile is set in a digital world known as the Mainframe and takes place within one second of real time. The main character is the humanoid Program, which is a semi-aware code. In the face of rapid changes destroying virtual reality (which is a consequence of the progressive process of the birth of Artificial Intelligence), the protagonist tries to discover the sense of his existence, while trying to avoid death by deletion.

The story told in the game has a non-linear construction and can end in various ways determined by our style of play.

Mechanics

In Recompile the action is shown from a bird's eye view. The abstract locations we visit are full of challenges and dangers. The program not only has to confront enemies, making use of the extensive arsenal and combat skills, but also to overcome terrain obstacles, jumping on platforms and getting past traps, or solve hacking-based environmental puzzles. As the protagonist progresses, the he gains new weapons and expands his range of abilities, thanks to which he can get to previously inaccessible places (the game world has a kind of labyrinth construction) and face more and more powerful adversaries.

Technical aspects

Recompile attracts attention thanks to its colourful, three-dimensional graphics, adopting a "low poly" style (its individual elements are made of a small number of polygons). The game is accompanied by an electronic soundtrack, the pace of which adapts to our actions.
