Receiver 2 is the second part of a series of realistic shooters launched in 2013. The game was developed by the authors of the original, i.e. the independent Wolfire Games studio, and although it is inspired by the previous part of the series, the authors have significantly expanded its individual aspects. This time we get more weapons designed in even more detail; the range of locations where the action takes place has also been extended.

Plot

The story told in Receiver 2 is enigmatic. The player is the Receiver whose job is to deal with a threat known as Mindkill. First, however, he will have to understand his nature, as well as face the thugs trying to stop him at all costs.

Mechanics

In Receiver 2 the action is shown from the first person perspective (FPP). During the game, we walk through procedurally generated levels, among which we find both more or less squalid interiors and outdoor locations. By visiting them, we fight our enemies, making use of firearms. Similarly to the previous one, the efficient use of the pistols and revolvers that are put at our disposal requires a prior learning of the way each of them works.

Weapons, created on the foundations of real "guns" designs, have a lot of movable elements. However, using them is not just about pulling the trigger and occasional reloading. Instead, we need, among other things, to find out how to replace the magazines or at least find out how to remove the defects that afflict them. Moreover, the authors have developed a ballistic model based on scientific data. Thus, bullets are subject to the laws of physics both during the flight and when penetrating targets and bouncing off obstacles.

All of which means that one accurate shot is enough to get rid of the enemy. The matter is complicated by the fact that the hero cannot count on leniency either, and the permadeath makes us have to start the fight again after death.

Technical aspects

Compared to the original, Receiver 2 stands out not only because of its more sophisticated mechanics, but also because of its much better graphic design. A weapon designed with attention to detail makes a good impression, but you may also like realistic lighting and a detailed and devastating environment.
