Ravendawn is an MMORPG inspired by Tibia. The game is free-to-play (with microtransactions) and was developed by Tavernlight Games, a Canadian studio founded in 2015.

Mechanics

Ravendawn is set in a fantasy world. The game makes use of the top-down perspective. We start the game by creating our character; we choose their gender and Archetype, a set of skills tied to spellcasting and combat. Afterwards, we can begin our adventure. The game's vast open world is freely traversible on foot or via ships and boats.

It's up to us what we'll be doing during our travels. We can become:

  1. adventurers, exploring vast lands, meeting their inhabitants and completing quests;
  2. merchants, transporting our goods by land or sea (delving into the economy created by the game's community, learning and using this knowledge to make a fortune);
  3. bandits robbing convoys and other players;
  4. lords delving deep into politics and law-making (laws being defined by royal decrees);
  5. and many others, like fishermen, carpenters, tailors, cooks, animal breeders, miners, farmers or crafters (with many crafting mini-games available).

The player can also build their own house, where they can live alone or alongside other players. It's up to us how our home will look like; a small wooden cabin or a grand residence in the center of our land.

Regardless of our chosen path, sooner or later we'll need to fight. Combat has us wielding many different melee and ranged weapons, abilities and spells. There are various enemies standing in our way - hostile humans and other sentient creatures, monsters and ethereal beings.

As the game progresses, we can unlock two more Archetypes and acquire more skills. This lets us create one of several dozens character classes to suit our needs and playstyle. We have lots of freedom in this regard, being able to create spellcasting knights, elemental healers and many others. We'll also become stronger by acquiring better equipment and upgrading it.

Game modes

Ravendawn was created with online multiplayer in mind. The game features PvE and (toggleable) PvP. While we can traverse the world solo, we can also work together, establish and join guilds, form alliances with other factions and wage wars against them.

Technical aspects

Ravendawn features 2D pixel art graphics.
