Ratz Instagib is a dynamic first-person shooter developed for multiplayer mode (specifically an arena shooter). The game enables us to play as big, humanoid rats and offers quite an original idea for the game. Independent developer Lino Slahuschek is responsible for the development of the title and it is his debut project. The publisher of the game is Rising Star Games.
Mechanics
In Ratz Instagib we observe the action from first-person perspective. As befits an FPS, it's all about fighting enemies. It is worth noting, that the dev introduced a couple of original ideas into this formula. For example, each player has only one - exactly the same - weapon. In addition, almost every hit ends in death, which makes the game highly dynamic. The fun is also diversified by the ability to perform rocket jumps - very fast and high and thus enabling for a rapid change of position and deceiving an opponent.
It is also worth noting, that although our character can't acquire any new skills, as the game progresses, we unlock new cosmetic items, enabling us to change the appearance of the rat. It is not only about skins, but also different look of our projectiles or animations accompanying the death of enemies.
Each match takes place on one of several different maps. In addition, the devs provided the players with an editor that enables them to create their own boards and share them with the community. In the game, there is also a leaderboard, which enables us to compare our achievements with other players.
Game modes
We can only play Ratz Instagib with others. The game does not have a story campaign - the mainstay of the game is the multiplayer module.
There are several different modes available to the players. We have classic Deathmatch (the game is about eliminating enemies, the one who kills best, wins), Team Deathmatch (the rules are the same, but the players are divided into teams), Capture the Flag (we have to capture the flag and transport it to another place on the map, while the enemies try to kill us) and Freeze Tag (resembles a slightly mode deadly game of tag).
Technical aspects
Ratz Instagib features fairly simple three-dimensional visuals with cel-shading - which means that both the world and the character models look like something you can see on comic book cards. The visuals undoubtedly have their charm, but their main advantage is its transparency - the players can see what is happening on the screen, which is not insignificant when you consider the demanding gameplay, in which a second hesitation can be a decisive factor for winning or losing.
