A continuation to the railway simulator from 2009 created by Dovetail Games. Similarly to its predecessor, the game introduces the ability to travel along the European and American railways – including realas well as fictional tracks. The mainstay of the game is the Career System, consisting of 50 scenarios, in which we control different railway engines, trying to complete the given tasks.

RailWorks 2 for PC is a continuation of the unofficial successor of the praised Rail Simulator, created once again by the railway enthusiasts, brought together as a part of Rail Simulator Developments studio. The game allows the player to assume the role of the creator and manager of virtual railways.

Gameplay

RailWorks 2 contains eight basic railways, including five tracks modeled after real sections (Bath – Templecombe, Oxford – Paddington, York – Newcastle, Hagen – Siegen, and Californian Cajun Pass), and three fictional (a freight train railway in Great Britain, a segment around Denver, Colorado, and a scenic route placed in a mountainous regions in Northern Europe).

These railways are used as a base for around 50 scenarios, which form the centerpiece of the main gameplay mode (Career System). The challenges include, among others, an attempt to cross a mountain pass controlling a freight train weighting 10 thousand tones, saving the passengers from a powerful snowstorm, as well as keeping it together while steering an express going over 125 miles per hour. The players can see their actions from many pre-defined camera set-ups.

Editor

Nevertheless, the mainstay of RailWorks 2 for PC is an advanced editor, allowing the players not only to modify the already created tracks, but also to create those completely new. In the second case, the player can decide not only on elements such as the type of terrain, it’s shape, or the length of the track, but also set up objects and buildings near the railways. The editor allows the players to share the created tracks, which has a large influence on the development of the RailWorks community.

Train Simulator Series

A series of dedicated railroad simulation games, created and developed by Dovetail Games studio. The roots of the series date back to 2007, when it debuted a train simulator titled Rail Simulator. After the group responsible for it was disbanded, the three developers decided to continue the development of this project and formed their own team. Two years later, the developers put into the hands of players their first original work.
