Rail Nation is an economic strategy browser game, in which the players have to create a railroad empire. The game has been developed by the Bright Future studio; the title is based on the free-to-play model with optional microtransactions.
We start our fun with the project as a manager of a small company, our ultimate goal is to become a true railroad tycoon with an enormous concern at our disposal. We are not the only ones to have such huge ambition, as there is a large number of competitive enterprises on the map. Most of the times those businesses end up being our direct rivals; however, sometimes we will manage to strike a satisfying deal with some of them and begin our cooperation, with equal profits for both of the partners. Creating railroad connections is the core of the gameplay, and it is our main task to transport goods between different cities via the use of our trains. The kind of transported resources has influence not just on our profits, but also on the growth of the cities themselves; the absolutely perfect business situation involves us monopolizing the supply of a certain type of cargo.
It is also crucial to develop our train stations and create the appropriate infrastructure around them, which will increase profits and our company’s efficiency. The construction of new trains is also extremely important, as we have to keep our machines on a competitive technological level to those of the other companies. We can expect investments into research and the acquisition of better models to be a regular expenditure. The speed of our trains can be tested by participating in various races. Each game begins with steam engines, and later on transitions into consecutive stages of the trade’s technological advancement, of which there are six. When combined, all of the mentioned features make the title a very intriguing and complex production, which could appeal to a wider audience than just railroad fans.
