PWND Description
PWND is an online FPS developed by the independent Skydance Interactive. The game described herein is inspired by the early titles representing the FPS genre and is available on PC.
Plot
In PWND for PC, players can experience the dystopian vision of the future shaped by the culture of the 1980s. The main form of entertainment involves participating in battles waged on arenas fought by nearly immortal competitors – gladiators who fall in battle are reborn in other bodies, which is now possible thanks to special pods called LAZER-US Resurrection Pods.
As the fallen warriors face no consequences, which resulted in the boredom of the audience, it has been decided to implement new rules – in order to gain points, one not only has to defeat the enemy but also humiliate him by performing a special dance over the dead body of the fallen foe.
Mechanics
The aforementioned rules affect the gameplay directly. Even though at first glance PWND for PC seems like an old-school shooter, a player has to consider the fact that when performing the dance, they is vulnerable to the attack of his adversaries. This is why, no matter which mode one chooses, in order to win a battle, cooperation with other members of the team is mandatory.
The dynamic battles are set across diverse futuristic arenas. In the game, a player assumes the role of one of the available characters; each one featuring unique combat abilities. For example, Hank "The Humiliator" Harris shoots volleys and can significantly increase his speed, while Rise "The Punisher" Ito uses an automatic sentinel towers and limpet mines that can be attached to the elements of the environment. Each character is also equipped with a different type of rocket launcher – e.g. Mack "The Law" Lawson uses a Regulator, which serves as a regular launcher shooting three types of missiles, while Victor "Splice" Guerrero uses his shotgun-like launcher. Interestingly enough, players can also use the so-called "rocket jumps" to move around maps – one has to use his rocket launcher and perform a high jump simply by shooting underneath himself.
Technical aspects
PWND for PC delivers decent 3D visuals featuring colorful, original, and a bit cartoonish style.
