A sci-fi RTS with roguelike elements, made by the former co-authors of Age of Empires and Halo Wars. Project Citadel is about participating in short, dynamic battles in space. We can send squadrons of ships of our design. Defeat is the not the end here - our mother ship can regenerate thanks to a unique relic.
Project Citadel is a science fiction RTS, enriched with mechanics borrowed from the roguelike genre. The game is the debut work of Last Keep - an independent development studio, founded by Dave Pottinger and other former employees of Ensemble Studios. They have in their portfolio games from the Age of Empires and Halo Wars series.
Story
Project Citadel takes us to a galaxy ruled with an iron fist by the sinister Voltari Empire. During the game we lead a faction whose task is to liberate this piece of space from the tyranny. We gain advantage over our enemies thanks to a relic that allows our mother ship to regenerate after destruction.
Gameplay
Project Citadel allows us to create our own faction waging war against the Voltari Empire. The main element of the gameplay are battles observed from a distance in interplanetary space, to which we send squadrons of independently constructed spacecraft. We can rely on both light and agile units, as well as more powerful, albeit slower ships.
The space battles are dynamic, so during them we must demonstrate not only tactical sense, but also the ability to make quick decisions. We can replenish the losses incurred during the battle, so we can almost always come out unscathed from any oppression. In addition to this, we are provided with a range of special skills and support abilities provided to us by the mother ship.
Missions take place on procedurally generated maps, and we select them from the campaign map, where we make subsequent moves in turn-based mode, alternating with opponents. Thanks to the relic allowing our mother ship to regenerate at the edge of the galaxy, nothing stands in the way of starting another attempt after being defeated.
