Despite the fact that the Prison Tycoon series is released by ValuSoft as a low-budget series, in the course of a few years it has been enthusiastic lovers. Designing its fifth installment, developers from the Anuman Interactive studio decided to meet the requests of fans and allow them to run a virtual Alcatraz.
As in previous editions of the series, Prison Tycoon 5: Alcatraz takes on the role of prison manager, whose ambition is to build a modern retreat place, adapted to "host" the most dangerous criminals. Unfortunately, the convicts do not facilitate the task - they do not burn to cooperate, do not shy away from processing and constantly think about ways to escape.
The duties of a virtual prison director include the expansion of the existing infrastructure (building new cells, watchtowers, recreational facilities, etc.), hiring guards, suppressing riots and preventing escapes. As befits an economic strategy, economic calculation is of great importance. The player may not allow the prison to go bankrupt, and the financial means are obtained by e.g. commissioning the convicts to perform certain work.
Prison Tycoon 5: Alcatraz is mainly based on giving orders to prison staff, buying and installing new prison components, as well as day-to-day policing and responding to emerging threats.
Compared to the previous games in the Prison Tycoon 5: Alcatraz series, the visual side of the game is significantly improved. The appearance of the virtual prison and its neighbourhood is an exact copy of the authentic Alcatraz. Models of objects both outside and inside the buildings have been depicted in 3D. Also noteworthy is its compatibility with the historical realities of the American prison system in the first half of the 20th century.
