The Longtail Studios production lets you play as one of twelve different characters. Each of them uses a different combat style. The developers made it possible to duel a live opponent. PowerUp Heroes also features a co-op mode for two people via the Internet or locally against the AI.
Characters you control are actually the avatars taken directly from Xbox 360 interface, clad in special armor. To play PowerUp Heroes, it is necessary to use Kinect controller, as the controls system is based on motion and gestures.
