Popup Dungeon PC

Popup Dungeon is an RPG with strongly outlined roguelike sub-genre elements. The game puts a great deal of freedom in gameplay, allowing players to create their own abilities and items. The game was developed by independent studio Triple.B.Titles. The publisher is Humble Games.

Plot

The enigmatic wizard has challenged mankind - in order to win, the heroes must overcome dozens of levels of his tower, and there are more and more dangers lurking in each of them.

Mechanics

Popup Dungeon is a game that resembles classic board games in its gameplay style. As in the case of the board games, we observe the action from an isometric perspective. We are dealing with an RPG that is also deeply rooted in the roguelike sub-genre - for example, the vast majority of content in Popup Dungeon is randomly generated. The gameplay is mainly based on exploring locations, fighting monsters (turn-based system was used) and performing various tasks.

The game offers dozens of heroes we can direct, several hundred types of enemies and even more items. Over 1,500 abilities are also available to players (our characters develop during the game). In addition, users can create their own content - including items, skills or spells - or modify an existing one. The system responsible for this is very simple and intuitive - it does not require any programming knowledge or experience in gamedev.

Game modes

We can play Popup Dungeon alone or with others. The core of the game is a single player mode, but the production also offers a local co-op mode.

In addition to the main campaign, players can take part in other stories (including those created by other users) or casual games. Popup Dungeon allows you to create almost any scenario and to refer to various genres and conventions (e.g. science fiction, steampunk). The rules can also be largely customised to suit your expectations.

An interesting option is the Dungeon Master mode, where in addition to designing our own challenges we can also take control over monsters.

Technical aspects

Popup Dungeon offers quite interesting, three-dimensional graphics. The graphics have been designed to bring to mind classic board games and wargames - for example, characters and monsters are represented by stylised paper "models" on coasters (players can even create their own - similarly to illustrations of objects). The graphic design is nicely animated and accompanied by spectacular light effects.
