Pop-Up Pilgrims Description
Pop-Up Pilgrims is another game created by the independent studio Dakko Dakko. The company set up by Rhodri Broadbent – a former employee of Lionhead and Q-Games – published their first game, The 2D Adventures of Rotating Octopus, in 2011.
Mechanics
Pop-Up Pilgrims is created for PS4 and PlayStation VR. Most such games feature the first-person perspective, but this is a 2D title. There is a platform displayed on the screen, on which the pilgrims march. The rules are simple – you need to lead the wandering pilgrims to the exit. Controls system is not really difficult, all you have to do is look at some point and push the button in order to make the characters go there. Still, this does not mean gameplay is simplistic.
The production offers a selection of diverse locations – starting from frosty lands, through a level overtaken by a giant bird, ending with a gloomy, clouded location. Each map is composed of a few floors, and all of them are filled with various obstacles, gaps, and vigilant enemies. Therefore, in order to win, you need to display great observation skills, dexterity, and calmness, as leading a group of unruly pilgrims poses a bigger challenge than it might seem.
Technical aspects
Pop-Up Pilgrims published on PS4 is a nice-looking, 2D production. Apart from diverse locations, the oriental visuals also attract the eye. Simple, yet appealing animations of the pilgrims and other characters also deserve recognition.
