Pirate101 is a family-friendly MMORPG telling the story of a pirate’s life. The game has been developed by the American KingsIsle studio known for creating games for entire families, like the popular Wizard101.
Plot
The action of the game is set in the universe called Spiral inhabited by both humans and anthropoid animals. Dozens of years before the events shown in the game, a generation of explorers has discovered trails enabling them to travel between remote lands. This has led to the development of both trade and industry. It did not take long for the four powers to become dominant throughout the entire world. These empires were Marleyborne, Valencia, Monquista, and Polaris. Their societies have developed the transportation industry and began establishing colonies across distant territories. Soon after, the four empires’ ways began to cross each other, which resulted in a war. People of Polaris have lost the world, however, the other countries suffered great losses as well. This situation has been used by the mercenaries, who have decided to abandon their contracts and turn to piracy. Upon starting the game, a player gets to see the pirates as a true power with their own ports and cities. The weakened empires have regained most of their power and now they plan to deal with the pirate folk.
Mechanics
In Pirate101 for PC, the player gets to assume the role of a pirate and, as in every MMORPG, begin the adventure with creating his own character. The game offers five separate classes – the first one is Buccaneer, a group of warriors who specialize themselves in combat and pure physical strength. They wear heavy armors and use large weapons. Privateers, on the other hand, are born leaders and can recruit more companions, than any other class. Players, who enjoy the subtle art of sword fight and surprise attacks, should consider choosing Swashbuckler class. There is also something for those who prefer magic – the Witchdoctor class. Firearms are a mandatory part of a pirate tale, and thus a player who would like to specialize in firearms can choose the Musketeer class. As one progresses, the character acquires more experience points, which can be spent on developing character’s abilities.
In Pirate101 for PC, a player gets to explore the vast open world and complete consecutive quests. Combat is turn based and during a battle, a player controls the character along with the companions that move around maps divided into tiles. A player gets his companion right after creating his own character. The other ones are recruited during the missions. Players can also own and develop their own ships.
Technical aspects
Pirate101 offers colorful and cartoonish visuals. The game puts a strong emphasis on players’ safety – parents can choose which elements of the game their children can access.
