Phantom Brigade Description
Phantom Brigade is a science fiction turn-based strategy with RPG elements. The game was developed by Brace Yourself Games studio.
Plot
The action of Phantom Brigade takes place in futuristic universe, and precisely - on the territory of the country, which became a victim of a large-scale invasion of a foreign power. Enemy forces destroyed its army and started the occupation. We play as a commander of the resistance, who stands at the head of the phantom brigade and tries to reclaim his homeland from the hands of the invaders.
Mechanics
In Phantom Brigade we spend most of our time doing missions played in turn-based mode, during which we command small units of mechs. Authors took care of a big variety of challenges. During the game we sabotage outposts with equipment, infiltrate bases and attack convoys. In most skirmishes our forces are clearly weaker and less numerous than the enemy army, so we have to hurry up with performing tasks in order to make it before enemy reinforcements arrive. The key role is also played by the knowledge of the situation on the battlefield and the use of appropriate tactics.
Each turn is divided into two phases. During the first, the planning phase, time stops and we are free to give commands to our units. Orders appear on the timeline, allowing us to control them and see how they will be timed (and to make sure they don't conflict or contradict each other, which can happen in the chaos of war). In the second, or execution phase, events are set in motion, and we can watch our units perform and see for ourselves how successful our strategy has been.
Mechs vary in appearance and combat capabilities. Among them you will find both fast and agile machines equipped with machine guns, as well as heavy units armed with rocket launchers and finally colossuses prepared for close combat. Additionally, each mech can be modified to a large extent, starting with armour, mechanical parts and camouflage patterns. All these aspects have a significant impact on the combat effectiveness of a given model. Even the most powerful mechs, however, are completely useless without pilots; these gain experience and develop over time. Interestingly, the game allows you to force an enemy pilot to leave the cockpit and flee, which is an excellent way to seize his mech and thus strengthen our forces. It is worth remembering, however, that the same opportunities are also available to enemies.
Between missions we get to the strategic map, where we decide which task we will undertake next, as well as select targets and territories to attack. As we progress, we gain resources that allow us to develop our base and increase the combat potential of the mech brigade, which, along with the losses suffered by the enemy, influence the further development of the conflict.
Technical aspects
The graphic design of Phantom Brigade presents a decent level. Especially different designs of mechs and prone to destruction environment attract attention - all objects visible on the maps can be destroyed.
