Pendragon is a turn-based strategy inspired by arthurian legends. The game has been developed by the inkle studio, known for such games as 80 Days, Heaven's Vault and the Sorcery! series.
Plot
The action starts in 673. Jealous Sir Mordred is leading to the dissolution of the Knights of the Round Table alliance. King Arthur will have to fight the last war of his life if he wants to save the ideals on which Camelot was built.
Mechanics
Pendragon is an unusual strategy, focusing on narrative. When starting the game, we choose one of several characters. Each has unique features that affect the storyline and options available in the game. For example, Morgana le Fay is treacherous, Sir Gawain abuses alcohol, Lancelot still looks at the world like a Frenchman, and Queen Guinevere is plagued by the mistakes of the past.
The character we chose sets off on a journey through the mythical version of seventh-century Britain. Along the way, we carry out tasks, conquer territories and recruit companions, whose characters and abilities change with the development of history. The key role is also played by turn-based battles.
Every turn the player has to make difficult decisions that shape the further development of history. The scenario is completely non-linear, so that the whole can be passed through many times, each time receiving a very different story. Anyone can die, even the character we chose in the beginning. Ultimately, all our choices and actions affect whether Arthur will face Mordred alone or be helped by his companions, thus increasing the chance of the monarch winning.
Game modes
Pendragon offers single player mode only.
Technical aspects
The game offers an attractive graphic design inspired by the board games, which was built on the basis of an upgraded version of the ink engine, used in previous studio games, as well as in Where The Water Tastes Like Wine.
