Pathfinder Adventures

Plot

The game is set in Golarion, a fantasy land created for the purpose of the table-top game called Pathfinder. The universe is a classic fantasy world full of magic, monsters and inhuman races such as elves, halflings, gnomes and dwarves.

The game is an adaptation of Rise of the Runelords campaign, published in 2007 for the paper and pen original game. The action takes place in a land called Varisia - an inhospitable place where few cities are surrounded by an unexplored wilderness that has covered mysterious ruins. Many thousands of years ago this area was occupied by the powerful Thassilon Empire, led by tyrants known as Runelords. The storyline revolves around attempts to bring these despots back to life - the player's goal is to stop them.

Mechanics

In terms of gameplay mechanisms, Pathfinder Adventures is a faithful adaptation of the tabletop rules of Pathfinder Adventure Card Game. We can play alone or in cooperation mode with four players where everyone controls one hero. Characters are divided into classes (e.g. warrior, rogue, magician and cleric), which have unique skills that we can develop during the game and strengthen with items.

We can participate in activities typical for the RPG genre. We travel between locations, complete quests, collect treasures and equipment and fight monsters. However, all this is done by playing cards with our own deck.

The game does not hide its pedigree and most of the graphic elements are two-dimensional. The game also lets the player see all the dice throws. At the same time, the small images from the cards have been adapted to be viewed on the screen and effectively build the atmosphere. Interactive scenes, during which we make decisions that are important for the further development of the story, are also a nice addition.
