Park Beyond offers a delightful theme park sandbox to challenge your imagination. With a vast number of attractions and the possibility to turn them into stomach-churning experiences with Impossification, Bandai Namco has built a theme park management game well worth visiting. It's held back slightly by some poor performance issues, but following some post-launch support, Park Beyond has the potential to make an impact on the genre.
Eurogamer: 2 / 5 by Ruth Cassidy
Despite making an excellent first impression, Park Beyond ends in a downward spiral that's exciting in a coaster, but lethal in an economy.
Screen Rant: 3.5 / 5 by Ben Brosofsky
Park Beyond feels like a throwback to the tycoon games that crowded shelves twenty years ago, intent on recapturing the more manic elements of a genre that sobered up over time. Players interested principally in simulating the management of an actual business might find that Park Beyond's quirks could drag it behind competitors. For gamers looking to scratch the imaginative itch, however, the game rises to the mantle admirably, encouraging the devious designs and flights of fancy that other games might reject. A little more polish could make Park Beyond great, but even with some rough edges, its charm is largely irresistible.
Park Beyond Description
Park Beyond is a strategy game in which we play as an architect creating our own amusement park. It was developed by a German studio Limbic Entertainment, also known for Tropico 6 and Might & Magic: Heroes VII. It was published by Badai Namco Entertainment - one of Japan's largest developers and publishers. The game was announced at gamescom 2021 and released on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5 and the PC.
Mechanics
The player controls an architect tasked with creating an outlandish theme park. Creativity is our only limitation, as the game's much wackier than other simillar productions.
The game features an advanced rollercoaster building system. This grants the player dozens of innovative modules, letting them create thousands of unique rollercoasters. The ride can then be tested in FPP mode.
Moreover, thanks to the extensive upgrade system, it's possible to give other of our park's attractions (carousels, Ferris wheels, roller coasters and others) a wacky, absurd twist. For example, a regular Ferris wheel grows to enormous size when upgraded, proudly displaying its new, colorful wheels.
To exceed our visitors' expectations, the player must manage finances widely, track the customers' satisfaction levels and browse their wishes and comments regarding the park and the attractions.
Just like other respectable amusement parks, this one is also equipped with surveillance cameras, making it easier to manage. They let us track our customers' preferences, design new shops, recruit and manage employees or invest in research and development.
Game modes
Park Beyond only supports singleplayer. The game features a story campaign, in which the player meets many NPCs (both friendly and hostile), learning more on how to manage a park. The mode's objective is meeting business expectations and creating attractions spectacular enough to ensure the player's success in the industry.
The game also features the sandbox mode, granting players more freedom in creating and expanding the park.
Technical aspects
Park Beyond runs on the Unreal Engine, featuring colorful, lively, appealing 3D visuals, using numerous themes and settings for different park attractions.
