PaRappa the Rapper Remastered for PS4 is a remaster of the music game that was released on PlayStation in 1996 and ten years later for PSP.
We play as the titular PaRappa, the rapping dog, who tries his best to win the heart of Sunny Funny, his crush. PaRappa is aided by his two friends, cat enthusiast Katy Kat and the chubby bear PJ Berri, in his musical shows. Joe Chin, a rich and narcistic dog, also is interested in Sunny Fynny. This not-so-complicated plot does not influence gameplay at all, it only serves as a mere background.
Besides being a good rapper, the protagonist of PaRappa the Rapper Remastered for PS4 also has to impress Sunny Funny in other ways. First of all, we will have learn kung-fu and get a driving license. We will also have to learn how to sell stuf on the flee market, and buy a new car with the money we earn. Learning to preapere some sea food dishes will also come in handy. Each of those tasks we do to the beat of music, so we have to have a good sense of rhythm and know the game’s controls well. One of the new features of PaRappa the Rapper Remastered is the usage of the Dualshock 4 controller as a metronome.
Even though the gameplay in PaRappa the Rapper Remastered for PS4 remains unchanged, the game has now improved visuals. Those of you who own PlayStation 4 Pro and 4K TV screens may experience the game in Ultra HD resolution.

Parappa returns, looking like 2017, but still rapping like 1996.

PaRappa the Rapper Remastered is a game we’d recommend to every die-hard PlayStation fan, but being a straight-up remaster is a double-edged sword. On one hand it preserves everything about the original game PaRappa fans love, albeit in a much higher resolution, but on the other, it shuns new features or a revised approach to its rhythmic gameplay. There’s a lot of history there as well as some great tracks and one of gaming’s most iconic art styles. PaRappa can be as punishing as it is unconventional but, with an open mind, it may also be one of the best games you’ve experience on PlayStation 4.
Destructoid: 5.5 / 10 by Caitlin Cooke
As much as I love PaRappa and his quest to find love with Sunny Funny, the experience was significantly marred with the visible lag and the lack of calibration options. For a remastered rhythm game, this is practically a must-have given calibration difficulties with modern televisions. I still enjoyed my time with the updated, clean-looking PaRappa, but I might just go back to playing the PSP version if I got the funky flow...
