The remaster of an iconic 2004 RPG, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, originally released on the GameCube, featuring upgraded visuals but retaining the same gameplay and story.

Plot

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door stars the titular plumber, once again setting out to rescue Princess Peach, this time abducted by Sir Grodus and his X-Nauts for nefarious purposes. To achieve his goal, he must find the seven Crystal Stars, legendary artifacts needed to open the titular Thousand-Year Door. Both Mario and Grodus are also opposed by Bowser, who desires the Stars to take over the world.

Mechanics

The game is set in a papercraft 2D world, tasking the player with traversing locations, solving puzzles and fighting enemies. Combat is turn-based, featuring two playable characters at once - Mario and one of the several available partners, those being Goombella, Koops, Madame Flurrie, Yoshi, Vivian, Admiral Bobbery and Ms. Mowz. Each partner has different abilities, giving them different niches.

Mario has access to all sorts of skills too, which can be upgraded or unlocked by equipping badges. The number of equippable badges is limited by our badge points, BP, which can be increased every level up.

Technical aspects

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door features upgraded textures, animations, ambient occlusion, better lighting and support for 16:9 resolution. Just like Paper Mario: The Origami King, the game runs in 30 FPS, as opposed to the original game's 60.

The game runs in 720p in handheld mode and 900p in docked mode.
