Paper Cut Mansion

Paper Cut Mansion is an adventure, action and roguelike game, inspired by Tim Burton's films and the works of puppeteer Jim Henson. It was developed by an independent team, Space Lizard Studio, and published by Thunderful Publishing.

Plot

Paper Cut Mansion takes us on a journey to the fantastic world of paper. The hero of the game is a detective named Toby, who finds himself in a mysterious mansion. Wanting to get out of this place, the protagonist must discover its secrets and face the dangers lurking there. Game has 27 different endings and which one we will see depends on our actions.

Game mechanics

In Paper Cut Mansion we observe the action from an isometric view. We explore the mansion, get to know its inhabitants and perform various tasks for them, as well as collect evidence which will help us to uncover the secrets of the place. In addition, we encounter numerous environmental puzzles in the visited locations. It doesn't end there, because not all residents of the mansion are positively oriented towards us (in fact, those who have friendly intentions towards us are the minority here), we often have to fight. Depending on the individual style of play, we can eliminate enemies in close quarters, using firearms or in more sophisticated ways - by using a drone or traps, which will do all the dirty work for us. As we progress, we develop our hero - in exchange for completing missions we receive various perks, which not only increase the protagonist's combat potential, but also allow us to customize him to individual preferences. In addition, we gain better and better equipment on the way.

As it happens in roguelikes, sooner or later we'll get lost. Death is permanent here and after coming back to life procedurally generated locations change their layout and appearance; the same goes for rewards received for completing tasks and the location of items waiting to be discovered. Another feature are portals that take us to alternative versions of each location - from frozen, where we have to warm up regularly in order not to freeze, to overrun by monsters.

Technical aspects

The audiovisual aspect of the game Paper Cut Mansion is distinguished by its unique aesthetics. Graphics was made on the basis of hand-drawn elements, while the plot is conveyed, among others, through cutscreens in a musical style.
