Paparazzi is a humorous indie 2D arcade game funded on Kickstarter. A rivalry between a famous celebrity and a snappish paparazzo is the main theme of the game that takes place in a fictional city of Follywood. In terms of mechanics, Paparazzi is a typical cat-and-mouse game where our reflexes and concentration matter the most. Gameplay focuses on rivalry of two players in local multiplayer mode.
Paparazzi is a retro-style crazy arcade game for PS4, PC and WiiU, which focuses on the rivalry between a celebrity and the attacking paparazzo. The game is the debut of an independent American studio Pringo Dingo Games, and its production was completed thanks to a Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign.
Mechanics
Paparazzi is a kind of satire on the eternal conflict between movie stars and the photojournalists who constantly follow them. The action of the game takes place on the streets of the fictional city of Follywood. In terms of mechanics, we are dealing with a classic game of cat and mouse, in which reflexes and the ability to concentrate are rewarded. The game is designed for 2 people competing in the local multiplayer mode.
Depending on which side you stand on, the gameplay is completely different. Playing as the paparazzo, we control the lens of the camera, and our goal is to take the most embarrassing picture possible, for which our employer will pay a lot of money. The player playing as the celebrity has to effectively avoid the camera lens, moving through the streets of the city, sneaking between buildings and hiding in the crowd. If their dignity is seriously undermined, we can regenerate it by gaining more fans. The subject of the competition is the balance between the cash earned by the photojournalist and the personal dignity of the celebrity, and the task of both rivals is hindered by the constantly moving screen.
Technical aspects
Paparazzi uses a pixel art style, referring to classic arcade games from the 8-bit era. Playing paparazzo, we can't choose our character, but playing as the movie star we have several playable characters at our disposal, including the brilliant rapper named Gabrillion Eastboy or the rising pop star Trixie Blue.
