Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 is another installment of the cult series of action games originating in 1980’s arcade machines. The title is available on PC, PS4 and etc. and is a direct sequel to Pac-Man Championship Edition, the last game developed by the creator of the whole franchise, Toru Iwatani. That title debuted in 2007 in the Xbox Live Arcade service. Then it received upgraded versions DX and DX+ that were available on wide variety of gaming platforms. Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 was developed by first-party studio of Bandai Namco Entertainment.
Mechanics
Basic gameplay mechanics in Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 for PC, PS4 and etc. aren’t much different than the general principles of the whole series. The player is tasked with traveling through labyrinths and eating dots that appear on his way while escaping ghosts that are chasing him. The ghosts can be eaten only after obtaining special bonuses. Similarly as previous version of the game, this edition introduces some new mechanics that make the gameplay more interesting. One of the biggest novelties is the introduction of chain eating. This function is supposed to encourage the players to move through the labyrinth in such way that the ghosts that are chasing Pac-Man will star moving in one line. Eating a few of them one after another is awarded with great score bonuses.
Game modes
Similarly as its predecessor that was released in 2007, Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 for PC, PS4 and etc. offers many game modes, including the loved-by-fans Score Attack in which one must collect specific number of points before the time runs out. There are also new game modes available such as Time Attack – in which the main opponent is time itself – and Adventure Mode, in which player must for example chase escaping fruits and fight challenging bosses.
Technical aspects
In difference to the first installment of the series that was released in 2007, PC, PS4 and etc. version of Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 has three-dimensional graphics. This however only impacts the visuals of the title – gameplay mechanics remained two-dimensional.
