Owlboy Description
Owlboy for PC, PS4 and etc. is a platform adventure game, in which we assume the role of a titular owl-boy. The game was created in the vein of titles known from the golden age of Amiga computers and SNES console, and was developed by a Norwegian independent studio D-Pad.
Plot
Otus, the protagonist, is an owl-boy from Vellie – a flying village. One day, the settlement gets invaded by skyward pirates. Now, only Otus can save the village. The hero embarks on a dangerous journey that will take him to many intriguing locations. During the excursion, our hero will explore many new lands and battle increasingly difficult enemies.
Mechanics
Owlboy for PC, PS4 and etc. is reminiscent of classic platforming titles from Amiga or SNES, but introduces a number of its own ideas. We traverse vast underground and exterior areas, where we battle enemies and set out to accomplish main and side quests. The developers prepared many types of enemies, including large beasts. Additionally, each of the levels hides numerous secrets and special items.
Otus’ basic attribute is the ability to fly, allowing the hero to cross the platform sections. As the time progresses, Otus acquires many new abilities and useful artifacts. Owl-boy can also pick-up and throw items, as well as use the help of a friendly shooter. By holding the ally mid-air, Owlboy gets access to a mobile turret that can eliminate any enemy.
Technical Aspects
One of the highlights of Owlboy are unusual visuals, reminiscent of the artistic movement called pixel-art. The independent artists deliberately remind the players of the visuals that were typical to older platform. As a result, Owlboy includes low-quality backgrounds and characters. Nevertheless, this is a major highlight of the game, as it makes it unique among other titles.
