Outer Ridge is an unusual Asteroids clone. Its otherness lies in the fact that instead of a view from above, the author served us a perspective from the first person, similarly as in traditional space simulators. But the philosophy of the game has not changed a bit. A player hired by CRAP corporation is delegated to test a small fighter. Its task is to destroy the asteroids drifting in the space between Mars and Saturn.
The game is divided into successive stages. To pass each of them, you must destroy a certain amount of asteroids, expressed as a percentage. If we perform the task before us, we will have to look for an exit that will take us to the next zone. In addition to pieces of rock, enemies may also appear in the space, who will actively try to destroy our ship. Of course, in this case they should be disposed of as soon as possible, otherwise we may have considerable difficulties in completing the stage. Luckily, from time to time the broken asteroids can give away bonuses that make gameplay much easier. Among them we can find not only stronger weapons, but also shields to increase the strength of the ship or additional "life".
The Outer Ridge is an interesting look at the Asteroids theme, which has been exploited to the limits of its potential. Thanks to the first person perspective, the game resembles a more simplified space simulator than the cult prototype. Nevertheless, the program should appeal to all shooting enthusiasts, regardless of their attitude to the original idea. This will be ensured both by the excellent audiovisual setting and a great, fast action.
