Out of Place is an action-adventure game with RPG elements, developed by the independent German studio Bagpack Games. The team was inspired by iconic games such as Dark Souls and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, as well as Steven Spielberg's classic films.

Plot

The main character of the game is a boy named Simon, who finds himself in a dark, devastated world in mysterious circumstances. In order to return home, the protagonist must restore the balance between two ancient forces and reactivate a destroyed machine located high in the mountains. The protagonist is not alone, because he is accompanied by a floating sphere-shaped robot, known as Orb, which provides him with support.

Mechanics

In Out of Place, the action is shown from third-person perspective. During the game, we travel through gloomy locations and solve environmental puzzles, as well as fight encountered enemies, among which lead terrifying (and much bigger than the hero's size) bosses. The combat system is arcade and Simon uses a variety of weapons and combat skills in his battles. The latter are supplied to him by Orb, enabling him to adapt their range to the problem at hand. However, Orb's role is not limited to this, as the machine also displays useful information that replaces the standard user interface.

Technical aspects

Visuals of the game are maintained in an original style; the gloomy atmosphere is created by economical lighting and scarce colors, as well as memorable enemy designs.
