OTXO is a dynamic shooter with elements of roguelike, heavily inspired by the best-selling Hotline Miami series. The game was developed by the independent studio Lateralis Heavy Industries, and its release was handled by Super Rare Originals.
Plot
In OTXO, we play the role of a hero suffering from amnesia who ends up in a huge mansion. Although the protagonist has almost no memories, he knows why he came to the mansion. His task is to save his beloved, and in order to accomplish it, he must take up arms and face hordes of enemies who await him at almost every step.
Mechanics
In OTXO, the action is shown in a top-down view. During the game, we traverse a vast mansion and eliminate hordes of adversaries, making use of a rich arsenal that includes melee weapons, shotguns, pistols, and rifles, as well as a wide range of combat skills. Apart from regular enemies, much more powerful bosses stand in our way.
Even though the hero has a life bar and does not die from a single hit, we must constantly be on guard and stay on the move. Avoiding enemy fire is made easier thanks to the Focus mode, in which we move faster than bullets (not to mention the opponents).
Although individual rooms were manually crafted, their layout is procedurally generated, so each playthrough looks different from the previous ones.
Technical aspects
OTXO has pixel art graphics in monochromatic colors. The vast majority of the graphics are bathed in shades of gray, but red accents stand out against their background (mainly blood).
