Othercide Description
Othercide is a tactical game with RPG elements, inspired by titles such as XCOM and Dark Souls. The game was developed by Lighbulb Crew and published by Focus Home Interactive.
Plot
Othercide takes us on a journey to a fantasy world that has yielded to the pressure of evil from another dimension. During the game, we take control of the heroines known as Daughters, who face the invaders no matter the price.
Mechanics
The pillar of the game is the story campaign. It consists of missions, during which the main role is played by turn-based battles. In their course, we should display a tactical sense and react appropriately, and even interrupt and preempt the moves of opponents, turning the "queue" of moves made by individual participants of the clash to our advantage. Each of the Daughters represents a different profession, which translates into her abilities. For example, Soulslinger specializes in ranged combat, Shieldbearer acts as a tank, while Blademaster is perfect for close combat.
The game implements permadeath mechanics, which means that after the death of a protagonists, they cannot be resurrected. The loss in this case is all the more severe as Daughters gain experience points as they progress and level up, broadening their range of skills. Another way to develop the heroines is to collect so-called "memories" of defeated opponents, which provide them with various bonuses for statistics. It is worth noting that the latter cannot be transferred between heroines in any other way than killing their previous owner.
Between the missions we find ourselves in a city that serves as our starting point, as well as a shelter for those who managed to survive the invasion of the forces of evil. We can regenerate our forces here and talk to the locals.
Technical aspects
The visuals of Othercide are decent. The most noteworthy is their original style - the whole thing is presented in black and white with a few red accents.
