The King's Challenge is the first installment of a planned adventures saga of point-and-click games, titled Order of the Thorne. The game was developed by the independent studio Infamous Quests, whose portfolio includes genre-related Quest for Infamy from 2014.
Story
Order of the Thorne: The King's Challenge takes us into a fantasy world where we play the young bard Finn. The hero decides to take up the challenge posed by the king of Fairy Realm and find the lost queen. The stakes are high, because according to the promise of the monarch, the daredevil who manages to accomplish this task, can count on the fulfillment of one wish (if, of course, the realization of this wish lies within the reach of the ruler's capabilities). The protagonist embarks on the journey, hoping that in this way he will find a source of inspiration for his next song, and after completing the task - to improve the fate of all musicians.
Mechanics
Order of the Thorne: The King's Challenge draws in handfuls from the iconic King's Quest series. The game, therefore, consists of exploring, talking with NPCs and completing tasks they commission (mainly so-called fetch quests) and solving environmental puzzles, based primarily on the use of various items; in many cases, it is also helpful to create songs, which Finn learns during his voyages.
Technical aspects
Two-dimensional visuals of Order of the Thorne: The King's Challenge are a reference to the roots of the genre - the game uses pixel art and adopts colorful palette, which brings to mind the aforementioned works of Sierra Online. Thanks to this move, the game does not have high hardware requirements, which enables us to have fun on older computers as well.
