One Step From Eden is a strategy game with card game and roguelike elements. The game is a continuation of the cycle started in 2009. The game allows players to fight tactical duels with a computer or other user. Thomas Moon Kang (with support from other developers) is responsible for its creation. Humble Bundle and Maple Whispering Limited have taken on the publisher's responsibility.

Mechanics

In One Step From Eden, the gameplay is based on fighting against computer or other player-controlled opponents. We observe the world from the side (from side-scrolling perspective. Battles take place in real time, on a board divided into square fields - we can freely move our character sideways, up and down, to avoid enemy attacks or find a better position to counter-attack.

The range of available skills and special abilities depends on the character you choose (the production offers several different heroes) and the cards you have - in the game you will find several hundred spells, a similar number of different enemies (including mighty bosses, which are unique challenges) and more than a hundred items that increase the abilities of your character. Abilities can be combined. The board on which we are fighting may also be important for the battle (locations are random).

As the game progresses, we make choices and acquire new cards to cope with increasingly difficult challenges.

Game modes

In One Step From Eden, we can play alone or with others. In single player mode, we select the next locations where we will fight, thanks to a special tree, trying to get as far away as possible. The game offers a local multiplayer mode (we play on the same screen, cooperatively or against each other).

Technical aspects

One Step From Eden has a pleasant two-dimensional graphic design, which was made in a retro style ( pixel art). The designs of the characters are kept in comic book style (they bring to mind manga and anime), and the world is full of pastel colors. Everything is coherent, well animated, and can be enjoyed.
