One Piece Odyssey is another game based on the manga and anime One Piece created by Eiichiro Oda. It was developed by Bandai Namco, but this time the company decided to create a completely different project than previous games based on the One Piece license. ILCA studio, which has helped with such series as NieR, Pokemon and Dragon Quest, was also involved in the development.

Plot

Unlike Pirate Warriors and World Seeker subseries , One Piece Odyssey is not an adaptation of one of the many One Piece stories from the manga, animated series or feature films, but an entirely new adventure of the Straw Hat Crew.

One Piece tells the story of Monkey D. Luffy, who lives in a world divided into four great oceans punctuated by a vast ocean current known as the Grand Line. Endowed with the power of the devil fruit, the young man can stretch his body like rubber, but in return he cannot swim in water. However, this doesn't deter the protagonist, who dreams of getting the One Piece - the legendary treasure left by the Pirate King somewhere on the Grand Line. Crossing the place known as the "graveyard of pirates" is not easy, but along the way Luffy gains new allies. He quickly becomes known as "The Straw Man" or "The Straw Hat" - after the hat he received from a pirate friend as part of a promise he made to him.

The game is set after the time jump known from the original, so already in the New World in the Grand Line area. The straw men's ship is caught in a huge storm, after which the crew is separated and wakes up on an unknown island. Luffy has to find his friends and then together with them repair the ship and resume the journey. But before that, they will have to uncover the secrets hiding in the depths of the island.

Game mechanics

One Piece Odyssey is a jRPG in the style of Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, in which we explore vast locations, develop characters and fight with various enemies. Exploration takes place in real time, but during the battle the game uses turn-based system.

Each of the available characters has unique abilities and attacks, obviously taken from or inspired by the manga and anime One Piece. The developers have also taken the twist system from the series, thanks to which the game does not lack moments that remind of the best battles from the original. There are also combination attacks, i.e. performed jointly by several characters.

Technical aspects and other

The developers of One Piece Odyssey worked closely with Eiichiro Oda. The author of One Piece prepared the designs of characters and monsters that we will see in the game. Thanks to this, the graphics, although three-dimensional, maintain the style of the anime. Moreover, fans will appreciate the involvement of voice actors known from the anime series.

While playing we can listen to the music by Motoi Sakuraba, the composer known for Dark Souls, Tales of, Mario Golf and Golden Sun series, among others.
