OkunoKA is the work of an independent Italian studio, known for its Downward, a first-person action game with an open world focused on parkour. OkunoKA, in turn, is a demanding 2D platformer observed from a side perspective, set in a fantasy world.
Plot
The action of the game takes place in The World of Souls, in which life flowed calmly until the evil in the form of the wicked Os came into play, the aim of which is to capture the good souls and use them as fuel for their peculiar machines, in order to achieve a plan unknown to us more closely. Here we enter into action, a large, not very big, blue soul called Ka, who has tasted the devouring of dark creatures, taking the place of her friendly, yellow friends. So the eternally hungry Ka sets off on a journey around the world to eat more and more delicious evil spirits, which is the key to saving this once idyllic place.
Mechanics
OkunoKA is a platform game observed from a side perspective, aimed at people who like challenges and a twisted level of difficulty accompanied by numerous deaths. The game consists of over 100 levels, including the secret ones and those with bosses, at the end of which a fat black soul is waiting for us to devour. The levels are filled with numerous threats in the form of spikes protruding from walls, deadly lasers, vivid enemies and others. Reaching your destination requires a lot of precision, mastered wall-jumping and using your character's abilities in the form of elemental magic. Thanks to this, some of the levels not only pose an arcade challenge, but also give us the opportunity to come up with the fastest and most effective way to the goal, which we care about, because at the end of each level we get a rating depending on the time we completed it. And the better it is, the higher the level we'll take in the online ranking.
Technical aspects
OkunoKA is a fully two-dimensional production, with a colourful and strongly cartoon-like visual setting.
