Nuclear Blaze is a 2D arcade game that lets you take on the role of a firefighter. It was developed by one-man studio Deepnight Games, led by Sébastien Benar. This author is mostly known as the creator of Dead Cells, where he served as the lead designer and lead producer.
Plot
The plot of the game revolves around a vast fire. A brave firefighter (played by us) is thrown from a helicopter into the middle of it. His goal is to find survivors and try to explain the reasons for the disaster. The task quickly gets complicated when to his surprise he discovers that there is a secret military research facility in the region. He will have to go inside it to investigate its secrets and try to rescue the people trapped inside.
Mechanics
Nuclear Blaze is an arcade game with basic mechanics reminiscent of platform games. During gameplay we explore vast 2D maps, avoid dangers and dodge obstacles.
Main enemy in the game is fire and contact with it ends with the hero's death. Fortunately, our character is equipped with a fire hose connected to a backpack with water. Carefully using this equipment, we can pave our way through the flames. Finding ways to activate fire sprinklers also plays a key role.
The standard difficulty level in Nuclear Blaze is high, offering a real challenge even for platform games veterans. However, the game has plenty of options to modify the gameplay to make it easier or harder. Thanks to this everyone can adjust it to their own preferences.
Game modes
Nuclear Blaze allows only for solo play. Apart from the main gameplay variant, there is also a kids game mode, designed with a few years old players in mind. In it, the character is immortal and the maps are decorated with many fire engines and helicopters. In addition, when using this option we get simplified controls, and the game itself controls the direction of the water stream from the hose.
Technical aspects
Nuclear Blaze features simple 2D graphics done in a retro style full of large pixels. The game looks attractive, mainly due to interesting animations of the hero, a large variety of locations and very well realized fire effects.
