Not Tonight 2 is an adventure game with visual novel elements by Panic Barn studio. The game is a sequel to Not Tonight, released in 2018. Like its predecessor, the game combines gameplay inspired by Papers, Please with political commentary towards the current world situation.

Plot

The action of Not Tonight 2 takes place in the United States in an alternative near future. As a result of unregulated capitalism and rampant social problems, the country has turned into a dystopia. On the streets of the cities there are frequent protests against the current system. During one of them Eduardo Suarez, a foreign citizen, is arrested. Due to lack of necessary documents, Suarez is sent for deportation. The player takes on the role of his friends Malik, Kevin and Mari. They embark on a trek through a dystopian country in order to locate Eduardo's documents and save him from deportation.

Mechanics

In Not Tonight 2, the player's task is to cross the United States and reach Miami, where Eduardo is being held captive. To fund the trip, the main characters must find temporary work in each city they visit. They use their work experience by hiring themselves as bouncers in front of clubs, racetracks, casinos and cult headquarters.

The job of a bouncer is similar to that of an inspector in Papers, Please. Our task is to check the documentation of guests of the premises, detect irregularities and decide whether to let the client in or let him out. Depending on the place where we currently work, we get well-paid additional tasks such as recruiting people to a sect. While checking documents we also have an opportunity to play various mini-games.

Between working nights we get to the world map representing our progress. During the journey we read dialogues and make hard moral decisions. The plot is non-linear, the course of the game changes as a result of the decisions made and leads to one of several endings.
