Nosgoth PC

Nosgoth for PC is an online free-to-play third-person action game set in the universe of Legacy of Kain, a cult action adventure game series. The title does not continue the story of the aforementioned franchise nor will we encounter any familiar characters in it. What is more, it was not developed by Crystal Dynamics but Psyonix, which specializes in the development of multiplayer modes to other games (the team was involved in the production of Bulletstorm, Gears of War, and Mass Effect 3, among other games).

Story

As mentioned above, Nosgoth has little in common with the previous installments of the Legacy of Kain series, including the story. The world of Nosgoth is torn by the war between humans and vampires. Both races seek to dominate the entire land. In their strive, Homo sapiens rely on advanced technology, while the bloodsuckers prefer brute strength and their incredible inborn abilities. This conflict takes place after the events of Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver.

Gameplay

As you might have guessed, Nosgoth on PC allows us to side with either of the aforementioned races. Both offer completely a different play style – humans fight from a distance (using bows, crossbows, grenade launchers, flamethrowers and the like), while the vampires have to engage their opponents in melee combat. The latter are not aggrieved, though, for they are well-suited to employ this tactic thanks to their speed and endurance; moreover, some of them can even fly or perform long jumps.

Both sides offer three character classes to choose from. Humans can become Scouts (snipers with a bow), Alchemists (adepts of magic that throw various explosives) or Hunters (durable crossbowman who can engage in more direct clashes). In the vampire ranks, you may find Reavers (who specialize in silent elimination), Tyrants (strong fighters who seek direct combat), and Sentinels (winged combatants who can move rapidly, nosedive to grab the enemy and take them off the ground). What is more, playing a given “profession” results in acquiring experience which unlocks access to new weapons, skills and the like.

Technology

As befits a successor of the Legacy of Kain series, the title features a dark atmosphere and does not shy away from brutality – battles are bloody and cut off body parts are nothing out of the ordinary. Nosgoth for PC offers detailed and spectacular graphics, which translates into relatively high system requirements. While the game is free-to-play, micropayments — that allow us to buy new weapons or abilities — are present, although these are not bonuses that can grant any advantage on the battlefield, because the developers decided, as a point of honor, not to make their production a “pay-to-win” one.
