An unusual 2D platform game with economy game features and an open world. In Nom Nom Galaxy the player assumes the role of an entrepreneur who is tasked with building a giant factory that produces soups for aliens. During the game the player is controlling a single character that can freely run across the map and jump above obstacles like in a classic platform game.

Nom Nom Galaxy for PC and PS4 is a mix of many genres. It combines traits of two-dimensional platform game with economic game features and an open world of a sandbox. The title was developed by Japanese studio Q-Games.

Gameplay

The player assumes the role of an entrepreneur who is tasked with building a giant factory that produces soups for aliens. Despite the fact that the main gameplay objective is taken from strategy games, the controls in Nom Nom Galaxy for PC and PS4 are based on platform games. The player controls a single character that can freely run across the map and jump over obstacles. The character is also equipped with a multi-functional laser that can be used for tearing the surrounding into atoms. These atoms are then used as resources for constructing the factory.

Before the player starts constructing a base, he will spend time on digging tunnels in search for valuable soup ingredients. During these journeys the player must face dangers like poisonous clouds and aggressive carnivorous plants. The game world is also inhabited by powerful beasts that are lured by the sounds of construction of the player’s industrial empire. Many of these threats are at the same time the source of the most valuable soup ingredients. Because of that, avoiding them is not always the best solution. The game world is highly dynamic. The plants are growing, gradually changing the ecosystem on the map. Some fauna elements, like mushrooms that create poisonous gas, are very dangerous, but with a bit of effort the player can use their smell to lure rare monsters into a trap.

During the early phases of the game the player must manually gather resources and take care of production of soups and items. As the industry grows, more things can be automated by constructing buildings, machines and robots. Both the architecture plans and rare cooking ingredients are expensive, so the player must earn access to them. Nom Nom Galaxy for PC and PS4 offers singleplayer mode and cooperation mode for up to four users.
