Night is Coming is a strategy game with survival elements. The game was developed by the Russian team Wild Forest Studio, and it was published by Ravenscourt.

Plot

Night is Coming takes us on a journey to a fantastic land inspired by Slavic mythology and Carpathian landscapes. Under the influence of a curse, monsters from fairy tales and legends appeared there - from wraiths and utopce, through werewolves to leshys. Despite these unfavourable circumstances, our task is to build a prosperous settlement from scratch, whose inhabitants will be able to face both these monsters and other threats.

Mechanics

In Night is Coming we observe the action from a top-down view. We start the game with a handful of subjects, who are eager to work, but don't have the necessary tools or resources to build the settlement. At the beginning our people sleep under the open sky and eat only what they can find. With time, however, they manage to acquire more and more resources, which allows them to construct their first dwellings (first they have to make do with tents, only later can they build houses) and build workshops to develop new and useful technologies.

As you progress, settlers learn to cultivate the land, cook and build increasingly advanced constructions. Apart from that, they explore new professions, learning about mining or various crafts. It is worth remembering to take care of their morale, because their needs grow proportionally to the level of their development. The game features a full day cycle and changing seasons, so for example, in winter we have to provide everyone with warm clothes.

To make our settlement prosper, we have to take care of its safety. In order to do so, we must build fortifications, gates and towers as well as train our subjects in the art of war. While during the day our villagers can work peacefully, after dark they do not necessarily have time to rest. The village is constantly attacked by monsters coming from the forest, the number of which increases with every night. If that wasn't enough, every winter the hordes of monsters grow, and in their ranks appear stronger and stronger creatures. To defend against them, we must supply soldiers with more and more equipment, take care of fortifications, as well as attract to the village heroes who will defend the villagers from the forces of darkness.

Technical aspects

Night is Coming features detailed graphics of good quality. Both the colourful and detailed environment and animations of building construction are very impressive.
