The new adaptation of the well-known NHL sports series includes all licensed NHL league teams in the 2002 season and an increased number of game modes with the ability to view post-match shortcuts with a professional comet player.
The 2002 edition of the NHL/i<> series introduces the Play Now mode and expands the options available in the Career mode - the quintessence of the game. During its duration, we manage the selected team acros many seasons, deciding on pre-match tactics, signing contracts with new players, etc. The creators once again put thirty teams of the NHL and twenty national teams into the hands of the players. We can also create our own dream team from scratch.
In the latest installment, the devs added features such as Breakaway Camera or EA GameStory. The first of them slows down the action in 1 on 1 situatios with the opposing team's goalkeeper, and we have to cope with increasing pressure. EA GameStory, on the other hand, follows the events during the match, preparing a complete video report, including commentary.
Player AI has been improved, thanks to which both defenders and attackers play better, and the whole gameplay has gained more realism. Growing emotions on the pitch change the behavior of hockey players expressing their anger or disagreement. The editor enables us to create our own players, both offensive and defensive.
In addition to changes in the course of matches, there is also a real treat for collectors in the form of the NHL Cards system modeled on the Madden NFL series. By playing spectacularly, scoring a goal in the first seconds of the game, etc., we receive special points, for which we can buy sets of random cards. In addition to pictures of licensed players, they often provide bonuses, cheats and other hidden options.
The live commentary is conducted by Jim Hughson and Don Taylor, who specializes in this sport.
