New Star Soccer 5 is the fifth installment of a series of sports simulations developed by the independent New Star Games studio. Players again have the opportunity to play the role of a novice footballer and try to develop their careers to match the football legend. This requires not only effort in training, but also coping with many issues outside the pitch.

Created by Simon Read, the New Star Soccer cycle is considered to be one of the most popular sports simulations ever created by independent development studios. The ambition of the creators of New Star Soccer 5 was not only to confirm this opinion, but also to introduce a number of changes expected by fans.

Players again have the opportunity to play the role of a young footballer, who at the age of 16 begins his career in the football world. Thousands of teams from dozens of countries are waiting for the new player. Unfortunately, the lack of official licenses did not allow developers to use real band names, but football fans should not have problems with identifying clubs such as "Man U" or "Chels".

In the course of the game, the player must direct the player's development, both on and off the pitch. The player's skills are described by 7 attributes, such as dribbling, shooting power and the ability to perform fixed parts of the game, which can be developed through training. During each match a player, unless he is too exhausted to enter the pitch, receives from several to several occasions to demonstrate in one of the mini-games illustrating match situations (e.g. free throws, ball interceptances, under-game actions). The extent to which they are used depends on the final assessment, including the amount of experience gained and the relationship with the coach, teammates and supporters.

Footballers' career paths are also influenced by matters outside the pitch. The protagonist's life is described by 8 coefficients taking into account, among others, relations with the coach, colleagues from the locker room, fans and sponsors, as well as the level of luxury achieved and satisfaction with social contacts. Many times the player is faced with the choice of which of the zones of life to develop and the cost of what.

New Star Soccer 5's innovations are largely built in social features. Thanks to the online rankings it is easy to compare the results achieved in the game with the results of players from all over the world. An interesting fact is that our teammates are randomly selected characters created by other participants of the game.

The changes also included the visual side of the game. The creators remained faithful to the top-down view and modest, two-dimensional graphics, however, it was made sure that the events on the virtual pitches gained more dynamics, the players played more rationally, and the player had more freedom of action by directing the player's actions on the pitch.
