Necromunda: Gang Skirmish is a turn-based strategy game based on the popular wargame Necromunda, developed by one of Games Workshop's divisions, Specialist Games. It was developed by the Legendary Games team. The game is distributed in the free-to-play model (free with micropayments).
Plot
Necromunda: Gang Skirmish takes us on a journey to the titular planet Necromunda from the Warhammer 40,000 universe. Most of its surface is uninhabitable, so the only human settlements there are huge structures known as Hive Cities. In the undergrounds of these cities, known as the Underhives, all forms of crime are the order of the day, making them arenas for battles between gangs fighting for domination over the others. In the game we become the leader of one of such groups. Our task is to lead it in such a way as to increase its reputation and sphere of influence, and thus push other factions to the sidelines.
Mechanics
In Necromunda: Gang Skirmish, the developers provide us with a variety of gangs. The Goliaths are overgrown, powerful men, the Eschers increase their combat potential with the help of various medicines and chemicals, the Orlocks are a veritable superpower keeping the local ore mines under control, while the Van Saar are excellent craftsmen and armourers creating superb combat gear.
Once you've chosen one of them, there's nothing left to do but fight for power over the Underhive. During the game we fight turn-based battles, in which the key to success is recognizing the strengths and weaknesses of the enemy and developing tactics based on this knowledge, as well as skillfully using the abilities of each of our gang members.
As we progress, we increase our area of influence and gradually begin to dominate the other groups. In addition, over time we can develop our subordinates, and we are given more opportunities to modify their appearance.
Game modes
Necromunda: Gang Skirmish can be played solo or in online multiplayer mode (game allows for cross-platform play).
Technical aspects
Necromunda: Gang Skirmish features cel-shading graphics in a rather garish and caricatured, yet dark style.
