NCAA March Madness 2002 is the debut of this series of sports games licensed by the National Collegiate Athletic Association on PlayStation 2, as previous editions were released on the first version of Sony's device. This title is an alternative to the NBA Live cycle also released under the name EA Sports.

More than 150 basketball teams known from the NCAA games are at the player's disposal. Nothing stands in the way of creating your own players with the help of the built-in editor. The game offers only two modes of play: a tournament and a show match. This means that there is no more extensive career option for a single player, during which we could lead the team for several seasons.

Compared to NBA Live series, the developers introduced a number of changes in control and gameplay mechanics. In the case of this title we are dealing with more dynamic plays. We also observe more impressive actions under the basket. The artificial intelligence of the opponents has improved, thanks to which they try to pass the ball to an unseen player during an offensive.

NCAA March Madness 2002 is based on the same graphical engine as the NBA Live 2002 production. As a result, we observe, among other things, player reflections on the polished floor surface and detailed character models. The introduction of additional motion animations contributed to the increase in the realism of the game. During the match we are accompanied by fans' applause. Its intensity increases with the execution of several impressive actions in a row by the host team.
