NCAA March Madness 06
The next installment of a series of sports games focusing on academic basketball competitions within the American association NCAA. We assemble a team, take care of the selection of the right strategy and try to lead players to victory at the national championships.
developer: EA Sports publisher: Electronic Arts Inc.
NCAA March Madness 06, released on PS2 and XBOX, from EA Sports studio is a production addressed to basketball enthusiasts at the academic level as an alternative to Electronic Arts' main line of games dedicated to this sport, namely NBA Live. As every year, another part of the title, licensed by the National Collegiate Athletic Association, offering several new features, is released in the autumn. This time, the creators decided to focus primarily on improving defensive play, thanks to which defense against the opponent provides as much emotion as attack.
Mechanics
NCAA March Madness 06 doesn't feature any new game modes. We can play single matches, tournaments, seasons or start a long-term career as a team manager in the Dynasty. In the latter case, we take care to maintain the best possible line-up, taking into account the need to charge the disobedient players with a temporary disqualification penalty for breaking the league regulations. Before each game, we choose a few tactical plays, which we call during the game before the action. Previously, this function was available only to the offensive, but the developers have decided to use this solution for the defense, too.
It is the defense that is most varied in NCAA March Madness 06. Thanks to the new player control system, we can quickly run to the attacker and try to push the ball behind the sideline or even intercept it. The easiest way to do this is to analyze in advance to whom the opponent intends to pass the ball and prevent him from doing so by crossing the ball's path.
Technical aspects
The graphics in NCAA March Madness 06 have not changed much except for the addition of several new player animations. The game looks slightly worse than the games from the NBA Live series, mainly due to the smaller detail of the character models. During the matches, we are cheered by teenage supporters.
