NBA 2K Online is a free-to-play MMO. (free of charge) sports game, based on the popular basketball simulation cycle. Players have the opportunity to direct the players of their favourite NBA league teams to compete against live opponents via the Internet. The title was produced by 2K Sports development studio in Shanghai.
NBA 2K Online is a joint venture between 2K Sports and one of the largest MMO portals in China, Tencent Games. Bearing in mind the customers from the Asian market, the creators decided to prepare a network version of the NBA 2K cycle based on a business model based on microtransactions (free-to-play).
NBA 2K Online offers players the opportunity to lead players from their favourite teams of the NBA (National Basketball League). In addition to the line-ups in which the teams performed in the 2012 season, there is a possibility to introduce their own modifications, including creating new players and introducing changes to existing profiles.
NBA 2K Online gameplay combines elements of sports simulation and RPG. The creators prepared several variants of the game. Players can, among other things, face live opponents in battles, or check out the tasks assigned to them by the system. Obtained results determine the place in web rankings updated on an ongoing basis.
Technically, the game is based on earlier versions of NBA 2K series. Developers used the same engine that powered NBA 2K12, among others. However, changes have been introduced, allowing, among other things, the use of extensive social functions and limiting hardware requirements.
