The first mobile edition of the popular book series about the adventures of teenage detective Nancy Drew. In this case, however, we are not dealing with a classic adventure game, but a gamebook, in which players have the opportunity to choose the path of plot development. The whole was enriched with numerous mini-games connected with the story told in the book.
Nancy Drew Mobile Mysteries: Shadow Ranch is the first mobile version of the bestselling series about the adventures of a teenage detective lady. In contrast to the series of computer adventure games developed by Her Interactive since 2000, this time we are dealing with a specific hybrid of adventure games and gamebook.
The plot of the story is based on the fifth edition of the book cycle published in 1931 and takes us to Arizona, the title ranch belonging to the family of friends of Nancy. Soon after arriving, our heroine discovers that this place hides a dark secret from the past, and the ghosts haunting the farm scare guests away, contributing to the collapse of the farm. The legend says that Dirk Valentine and his horse, taken out of the law, who once hid in this place and return here also after their death. Accompanied by friends George and Bess, Nancy decides to solve a dark mystery and save the wound from bankruptcy.
As we are dealing with an interactive gamebook, most of the time in the game will be spent reading the following chapters of the story. However, the authors have taken care of alternative storyline paths, giving players the opportunity to decide on the development of the action as in popular paragraph RPG games. The gameplay is additionally enriched by mini-arcade games connected with the whole history, among which we can find scenes with hidden objects, word games, puzzles, labyrinths and horse races.
